Darin DuPont is a Merced County native, born and raised, whose family has long ties to the Merced community. Being born and raised in Merced, Darin has learned that the community works hard for their accomplishments, and this is instilled in every person.
After graduating from Buhach Colony High School, Darin attended Merced College before transferring and attending George Mason University in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Public Policy, Darin strived to become the first in his family to obtain a graduate degree by applying to law school. Darin achieved that goal by attending the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, graduating in 2021 with a Juris Doctorate with a concentration in Water and Environmental Law and a concentration in Public Policy/Government Law.
Darin has always believed in helping and contributing to his community professionally. This is exactly the reason he returned to Merced to help advocate for people in Merced County as a civil attorney, ensuring their voice is always heard. Darin currently works as a civil attorney in Merced with a local private law firm.
Darin is passionate about advocating and serving his community, which is why he serves on the Merced County Jail Ministry Board, the McSwain Education Foundation Board, organized, established, and serves on the Hall of Fame of Buhach Colony High School for his alma mater, and recently served as a Board member with Merced’s Chapter of Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs.
Darin married his beautiful wife, Bianca Minor, in May of 2021 and they enjoy slow pitch softball at Joe Herb Park, traveling, and hanging out with their friends and family.
Public Safety is the backbone of our community. As a growing city our Police Department is understaffed and lacks updated facilities, we need to ensure our citizens have the quality protection and safety that we deserve. Further, we need to support our Fire Department and firefighters as they seek to provide solutions to problems throughout our community and ensure we are providing a competitive job position. It is critical that we support Measure C to ensure we have adequate funding for both our Police and Fire Departments. Our first responders are there when we need them and we must create a supportive environment. I will strive to make sure that our first responders have all the proper tools needed to keep our community safe and thriving.
District 1 is in the best position to facilitate growth in economic development. Jobs are critical for the future of Merced. As a city council member, I will fight to make sure we have top-of-the-line jobs in our city. To accomplish that I will work with UC Merced & Merced College, local leaders, and current employers in our city to see what we can do better to attract new employers, help current employers to see where we as a city are falling short, and focus on workforce training so we can attract new highly qualified employees.
With the current housing shortage and booming cost of housing, city leaders must find new solutions to address Merced’s housing conditions. In 2022 and 2023 the City of Merced saw a substantial decrease in building permits. This slowdown impacts our community’s ability able find affordable housing. It also negatively impacts City revenue and the City's budget. As a council member I will work with community and industry leaders to create competitive building opportunities that ensure families can afford housing.
